Meet your representatives

Ranui Claire Calman
Elected

Kia ora e te whānau. Ko Tainui te waka. Ko Wharepuhunga te maunga. Ko Waikato te awa. Ko Ngāti Raukawa te iwi. Ko Ranui Calman ahau.

My name is Ranui and I am a parent of Kahutaiki (year 9 at Cashmere) and Awatea (year 5). I am married to Matt and am a commercial property lawyer at Greenwood Roche. We have been part of the Hato Mātene/St Martins school whānau since 2015.

I have been co-opted to the Board since 2020 as the Whānau Group representative, providing a link between the Whānau Group and the Board. Over the last few years, the kura has made excellent progress on its culturally responsive journey and I am proud of the part the Whānau Group has played in that – designing and building the waharoa, naming our classrooms, advocating for continued professional development for our teachers, and assisting with mihi whakatau, marae visits, mihimihi and pepeha and Matariki events.

During my time on the Board, I have gained invaluable experience in school governance and provided useful input; helping to navigate the new Education and Training Act, leading our Hautū review (Board cultural responsiveness self-review), asking questions, making suggestions and interviewing teaching applicants. With our two longest-standing board members stepping down this election cycle, continuity is key and I can provide this.

I have a passion for education and love being part of the Hato Mātene community. If elected to the Board, I will continue to prioritise learning and the wellbeing of all our ākonga as well-rounded individuals equipped for our ever-evolving society.

Whāia te mātauranga hei oranga mō koutou - Seek after learning for the sake of your wellbeing. If you follow the path of learning, the world will be your oyster.

Kia ora.

Joseph Hampton
Elected

Kia ora, My name is Joseph Hampton, and I am standing for the St Martins School Board.

I have a deep connection to Christchurch, where I was born and where my family and I currently reside. My wife and I, along with our two children, Isaac (5) and Zara (2), enjoy exploring the vibrant arts, cultural, and sporting scenes that exist on our doorstep.

I believe that primary school education is a critical stage in our children’s development. It lays the foundations of our children’s character, social growth, and lifelong love for learning. As an architect and principal at Warren and Mahoney I have led many challenging projects. My role demands strong communication skills, a robust work ethic, critical thinking, and collaborative teamwork.

From 2017 to 2019 I was elected as the Canterbury representative on the Board of the New Zealand Institute of Architects. This experience deepened my appreciation for the importance of effective governance and I’m excited at the prospect of applying my knowledge and passion for learning to the St Martins School Board.

As a parent with two young children at the start of their St Martins learning journeys, I’m committed to supporting our principal, dedicated staff, and fellow local families, as they prepare our tamariki to thrive in every aspect of their development.

Thank you for considering me as a candidate, and I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the continued success of our school.
